In order to produce a high quality print we need to start with a high quality image file.
We have found the best image format to use when attached to e-mail is a jpg file.
It will produce a full range of color with a reasonably small file size.
The unit of measure used in a scanners is usually 'dots per inch'.
While a scan of 100 to 150 dpi (dots per inch) will produce good results we recommend
scanning at 300 dpi for better print characteristics.
If you are working with a small picture, an even higher scan setting can be used.
Specially if you are planning to have the image printed on a T-shirt.
The gamma setting should be adjusted to provide an image that retains detail
in both the highlight area's, as well as in the shadow area's.
If the gamma setting is too high the details in bright area's of the print will be lost.
If the setting is too low the image will become too dark and lose detail in dark area's.
The ideal setting is somewhere in the middle. :-)
Attempt to make an adjustment that will give to best over all picture.
We can then make the fine adjustments needed to properly print the item ordered.
There are too many different cameras to attempt to supply settings for all of them.
Most cameras allow setting the image size, as you know,
the larger the image size the fewer pictures available on the disk or memory chip.
A 640X480 pixel image may look great on your computer screen but
it will usually not produce a good print.
Choose a larger image size and adjust the camera for a good exposure.
The same basic rules apply here.
The file for your drawing or artwork should be
the same size as the print will be, or slightly larger.
The file should be set to 300 pixels per inch
so in order to make a8X10' print the file size would be 2400X3000 pixels. :-)
